Vocational Pathways

The Vocational Pathways Program at The Sycamore School is designed to provide tailored support for autistic young people as they navigate their post-Sycamore pathways. Our goal is to create a supportive environment that fosters growth, independence, and success for each young person. Through personalised guidance, skill-building opportunities, and mentorship, we aim to empower our young people to confidently pursue their educational and career aspirations. By understanding their unique strengths and challenges, we can help them unlock their full potential and thrive in their chosen path.

In collaboration with our young people and their families, we help young people to develop a transition plan that meets their needs and matches their aspirations while acknowledging some the unique challenges young people may face as they pursue their chosen pathway.

Our Vocational Pathways program starts in Year 7 to get our young people thinking about what their journey might look like beyond our school. From Year 9 to Year 10 we are actively creating and actioning their individual transition plans as well as building life and job skills through travel training, an in-class business experience, interviewing and presentation training, real world work experience, understanding the value of money and how to budget.

We are also passionate about collaboration with our young people’s new environment providing transition support for the young person and their family, as they embark on putting their transition plan into action.
We are committed to providing a safe and inclusive space where autistic young people can explore, learn, and prepare for a bright future ahead.

The Sycamore School acknowledges that there are different ways in which the community talks about autism – some use identity first or autism affirming language, ‘Autistic person’ and some use person first language, ‘person with autism’.  Here at The Sycamore School we believe that our young people should be celebrated for their strengths, that they are valued and empowered to be proud of the unique capabilities’ autism brings to their life.  The Sycamore School is using autism affirming language.

We would like to acknowledge the Quandamooka people, Traditional Custodians of the land our School is on, and pay our respects to their Elders, past, present and emerging. We extend our respect to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples throughout Australia.
